| Originally from New York
City, Kamrul Hasan began designing at the age of 14, often adding fabrics and
colors by hand to his own clothing to make them unique among what he saw around
him. He developed an interest in men’s
fashion in 2001 when he began working for the custom clothing company on
Madison Avenue, "Addison on Madison."
After graduating from
college with a degree in graphic design, his vision for fashion evolved. At
first as a hobby, he began designing ties for himself and close friends. Because of positive responses to his work,
from acquaintances and strangers, he saw the opportunity of creating brand
holding locally handmade ties, and Metro Retro Apparel was started.
Hasan's drive is founded
on the fact that men's accessories are limited as compared to the options in
women's apparel. As an independent label
he has found the freedom to focus on originality in design, the trademark
thinner design a break away from the traditional 3.75" standard that
requires a three piece suit to wear.
He draws his inspiration
from English and Scottish wool plaids, vintage design patterns, and 80's
fashion. Each piece is crafted as a one of a kind meant to be worn as an
accessory no matter what the look. The essence behind Metro Retro Apparel is
the development of men's neckwear and accessories as part of the individual
fashion sense and not simply pieces of formal attire.
What puts the label on
separate ground is the devotion to New York style and New York design. Each piece is made from the finest, handpicked
wool, cotton, cashmere, and silk from local distributors, handmade in New York
City. Hasan is always developing new
accessories and is currently propelling his brand to newer plains in fashion. |
